Bring physics to life!
Become a Monster Maker
Create monster eggs, hatch them and take care of your self-designed monster creations.
Use the sensor pods to determine how your monsters look. For example, if you measure a cold value with the temperature sensor, your monster will have long fur. Sound sensor and light sensor influence other characteristics of your monster. In this way, your real environment merges with the monsters in the game.
Create and collect a wide variety of monsters by constantly combining new readings. Of course, you can also use your sensor pods as a mobile lab. Measure with them what you want, when and where you want. Lab mode also gives you the ability to take long term and live measurements
Learning has never felt so much like playing.
In Monster Maker, kids use three sensor balls to take physical measurements from the real environment and transfer them to an app game. There, monsters with a wide variety of properties are created. If the temperature was low when measured, the monster has long fur. The sound and light sensors influence completely different characteristics, and so many new creatures quickly appear in the game world. It's clear that children keep reaching for the sensors, taking care of their monsters, playing with them and developing a feeling for physical units of measurement in the process.
Winner of the "Tommi 2018" children's software award in the "Electronic Toys" category
Frankfurt/Stuttgart, Oct. 15, 2018
The "Monster Maker" experimental kit from KOSMOS Verlag wins the "Tommi 2018" children's software prize in the "Electronic Toys" category. After the experiment kit had already convinced an expert jury, it had to withstand the rigorous test of a children's jury.
The conclusion: "There should be an experimentation game like this in school." The award ceremony took place at the Frankfurt Book Fair with patron Dr. Franziska Giffey, Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
With the KOSMOS "Monster Maker" experimental kit, monster fans aged eight and up explore their real environment and reproduce it in a digital game. How does it work? With various sensor balls for temperature, sound and light, they record different physical measurements from the environment and transfer them to a digital app game. There, cool monsters with a wide variety of properties are created on the basis of the measurements. In this way, the young researchers develop a concrete idea of physical units of measurement.
The children's jury's reasoning: "Monster Maker" wins third place at the TOMMI in the electronic toy category because experiments and monsters are a good mix. It is great fun to "capture" values for sound intensity, brightness and temperature with measuring balls. These values can be used to imprint monster eggs, place them on islands, and then color them. If the monsters are fed, two monsters get an egg that they have to hatch. There should be such an experimental game in school. (Source: Press release Kosmos-Verlag)

The fun factorCreating monster eggs, hatching them and giving them a home in the world of Sensoria - great fun for children and a great motivation to deal with the game and indirectly with physics again and again.Because in order to bring a new creature to life in the monster world of Sensoria, children measure light, volume and temperature with the help of three sensors (the sensor pots) and transfer this data to the app. The process starts immediately and you can watch excitedly as a new monster hatches from the egg. But what will it look like? It's simple: The children determine this themselves with their sensor pods! If they measure a cold value with the temperature sensor, for example, the monster gets a long coat. When it's warm, it becomes long. The sound sensor determines the size of the ears and the light sensor in turn influences completely different features of the monster and can, for example, make it glow. | The learning factorAlmost without realizing it, the children deal with units of measurement, environmental influences and physical properties. Because in addition to the random principle when hatching the eggs, the app also repeatedly sets concrete tasks. For example, the monsters have to be provided with food, which is only produced when certain measured values are combined. And you're already asking yourself the question: How cold is 12 degrees and how do I get this temperature on a hot summer day? In addition to the story mode, however, the app offers even more opportunities for experimentation! With a separate measurement mode, children can explore their surroundings quite freely and use the sensors for measurements independently of the game. This mode additionally offers the functions long-term measurement and real-time measurement. All data can also be exported from the app and processed further. | Comprehensive service for long-lasting funKosmos offers high-quality products that provide new insights over a long period of time, promote creativity and stand for intelligent entertainment. Franckh-Kosmos Verlags-GmbH & Co. KG (formerly Franckh'sche Verlagshandlung, W. Keller & Co.) is the name of a Stuttgart-based publishing house, which has made a name for itself through nature guides, guides, technical, children's and youth books and experiment boxes Has. The company is also active as a game publisher. One of the most famous titles in the game program is "The Settlers of Catan".
The publishing history
1822: Johann Friedrich Franckh founds the Franckhsche Verlagsbuchhandlung. Initially, the publishing program was characterized by literary writers such as Wilhelm Hauff, whose fairy tales, such as "The Cold Heart" or "Dwarf Nose", and folk songs are still known today.
1893: Walter Keller and Euchar Nehmann take over the publishing house
With the rapid development of the natural sciences, the focus of the publishing house changed at the end of the 19th century. Under the motto "Understanding Science", the first guides and non-fiction books on popular science topics developed with the "KOSMOS Handweiser für Naturefriends".
The KOSMOS publishing house
Franckh-Kosmos Verlags-GmbH & Co. KG, KOSMOS Verlag for short, is a media company in the heart of Stuttgart that feels equally committed to tradition and modernity. Our program covers a broad spectrum: guides, nature guides, non-fiction books, cookbooks, DVDs, children's and teen books, games, experiment kits, e-books and apps.
Well-known products and brands
Who does not know them, the KOSMOS experiment boxes or well-known brands and products that have received multiple awards such as What is blooming there ?, What's flying there ?, Catan, The three ???, The three !!! or star tail?
Committed and motivated by success: We know what our customers and our target groups expect from us. That is why more than 700 authors develop our innovative products; Together with approx. 20,000 trade customers, our business partners and our employees, they are our greatest potential.
The KOSMOS family and board games
The high quality in terms of features, design and playful standards has made KOSMOS one of the most successful games manufacturers of recent years. Catan (awarded the Game of the Year 1995) are an integral part of the gaming landscape.
Our concept "Literature in the Game" has shown, for example, that "The Pillars of the Earth" do not only know how to inspire in book form. The awards for our "Game of the Year" products (2008 for Keltis or 2013 for The Legends of Andor) or the "Children's Game of the Year" (2005 for The Little Ghost) show that we are exactly right with this commitment. Our games are played in many countries around the world and have helped to establish the success of the German Games in the USA.
The KOSMOS experiment boxes and access to knowledge
Generations of children have discovered their enthusiasm for science with the KOSMOS experiment kits. KOSMOS stands for innovation and quality as well as safety in the execution of the experiments. We believe children can better understand processes through active experimentation and are thus able to "experience and understand the world".
In addition to the updated classics on the topics of chemistry and electronics, the young generation hungry for education can now also deal with wind energy or solar energy.
The KOSMOS quality
KOSMOS is and remains the guarantor for highest book and game quality - this applies to the content and the product. This is not coincidental, but is the result of our strategy. We use globally operating specialists and make sure that the production conditions meet our standards and are certified by specifications and on-site visits. We know what our customers want, because of course our products are tested by the target group before they reach the market. Our authors and collaborators are experts in their field and are usually themselves part of the target audience for whom they think, write and be active. KOSMOS books and games are not just for the moment. Although they are entertaining, they are durable and sustainable.
