  • Boil 140 ml of water freshly for each porridge meal.
  • Let cool down to approx. 50 °C.
  • Measure out boiled water and put it into a blender
  • Add 5 tablespoons of pap powder and stir.
  • Leave to swell for about 1 minute.
  • Let it cool down to eating temperature.

  • What is corn and where does it come from?
    Maize is a plant species of the sweet grass family. He originally came from Mexico and came to Europe in 1525 through Christopher Columbus.

  • Why is corn suitable for feeding babies?
    Maize contains many healthy ingredients such as beta-carotene (provitamin A), various B vitamins and vitamin E. It is also rich in minerals, especially iron, magnesium, potassium and zinc.     Millet belongs to the sweet grass family and is the umbrella term for small-fruited husk cereal. There are over 600 types of millet in the world. Its origins can be found in East and Central Asia as well as in the North African Mediterranean region.

  • Why is millet suitable for feeding babies?
    The name millet comes from the Old Germanic and means as much as saturation. Due to its ingredients, millet lives up to its name and contains not only energy but also many minerals and trace elements such as iron, magnesium or silicon. These are ingredients that are important for baby's development. Millet is one of the original cereals and is also gluten-free. Due to its relatively hard skin and bitter taste, millet should always be eaten peeled.

  • Did you know?
    Millet is the oldest cereal on the basis of which unleavened flat bread was produced 8000 years ago. Due to the low adhesive content, millet can be used very well for the production of porridge. Since 2010, our HiPP products have used what is known as panic millet.

    Rice belongs to the family of grasses and is an annual cereal plant that comprises over 8000 different species. It is grown in most Asian countries, but mainly in China and India. However, there are also numerous cultivation areas in Europe.

  • Why is rice suitable for feeding babies?
    Rice is the staple food of about half the world's population. Peeled white rice primarily provides the body with carbohydrates and energy, while unpeeled rice also has a significantly higher nutritional value in vitamins, minerals and fibre. Rice is also a gluten-free cereal alternative. As finely ground rice flakes, it can be integrated into baby's diet at an early age.

    The history of rice cultivation in Southeast Asia goes back as far as 7000 years. Over 500 million tons of rice are processed annually. In many Asian languages, the words for rice and for food are identical, a sign of the high importance of the plant for nutrition there. For the rice, as for all other raw materials, only the very best qualities are sourced. Only selected fields for HiPP are harvested and processed. In order to guarantee the water supply, rice cultivation usually takes place in river deltas or near large water sources.

  • What is oat and where does it come from?
    The Saathafer is also called "white" or "real oat" and belongs to the sweet grasses. It forms its grains in branched panicles. Oats have their origin in the Scandinavian region.

  • Why is oat suitable for feeding babies?
    Oats contain a lot of protein and are rich in vitamins B1 and B6 as well as the minerals zinc and iron. It also has a high content of beta-glucans, which are soluble fibres and are said to have a calming and regulating effect on the digestive organs.

  • Did you know?
    Oats have been named medicinal plant of the year 2017, mainly due to their high fibre content. Due to its lower temperature requirements compared to wheat, oats are well suited for cooler locations. This is why oats are widespread in northern European regions.

    Wheat is the longest cultivated cereal after barley. The origin of the cultivation lies in the area of the fertile half moon (north of the Arabian peninsula, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia). Wheat probably came to Europe during the Neolithic period about 7000 years ago, initially in the Mediterranean region.

  • Why is wheat suitable for feeding babies?
    Wheat mainly contains potassium, magnesium, a high proportion of B vitamins and vitamin E. One of the best-known ingredients of wheat is gluten or gluten protein, which is responsible for the good baking properties of wheat.

    Rye is rich in fibre and has a more bitter taste than other cereals. Like wheat, spelt and barley, rye also contains potassium, magnesium, B vitamins, vitamin E and gluten. Due to its tart taste, rye is only used in cereal mixtures.

    Rye is cultivated all year round and, similar to oats, is an undemanding cereal. Although summer and winter rye have the same nutrients and processing properties, winter cereals are cultivated more frequently. Winter rye tolerates temperatures as low as minus 25 degrees and is more productive because it has more and much larger grains than summer rye. Rye has been in use at HiPP since 2010.

    Barley is one of the oldest cereals and originates from the Near East. Barley is used in the diet especially as barley and flakes.

  • Why is barley suitable for feeding babies?
    Barley, like other cereal products, is considered a fast source of energy due to its high content of carbohydrates in the form of starch. Barley also contains high levels of B vitamins. It is rich in fibre and contains beta-glucans. Barley has a lower gluten content than other cereals.

  • Did you know?
    The oldest evidence of the use of barley can be traced back to 15,000 BC. Already in antiquity barley was attributed a high importance. It was one of the first cereals to be cultivated specifically by man. At HiPP we have been using barley for our products since 2009.

  • What is spelt and where does it come from?
    Spelt is a subspecies of wheat and originated in Georgia before it spread throughout Europe. Due to its lower yield, however, the original cereal lost its cultivated area and importance compared to conventional wheat.

  • Why is spelt suitable for feeding babies?
    Spelt can be used as grist, flakes or even cooked and has a nutty aroma. Its ingredients are similar to those of wheat, so it contains relevant amounts of potassium, magnesium, B vitamins and vitamin E.

  • Did you know?
    If spelt is still harvested unripe, it is called green spelt. Originally this method was used to avoid harvest losses due to bad weather periods. We have been using spelt for our baby products since 2008.

Amaranth (gluten-free)

  • What is amaranth and where does it come from?
    Unlike wheat or rye, amaranth belongs to the foxtail family and therefore not to the grain. Rather, it is called pseudo-cereal, which finds its origin in South America.

  • Why is amaranth suitable for baby feeding?
    Amaranth has valuable ingredients and convinces with its high content of iron, magnesium and potassium. Due to its nutty taste it is interesting both for savoury dishes and as an addition to muesli or yoghurt. Amaranth is also gluten-free.

  • Did you know?
    Amaranth was considered a sacred grain by the Incas and was one of their main foods. The leaves of the amaranth can also be eaten and their taste is reminiscent of young spinach. We have been processing amaranth for our products since 2012.


Buckwheat (gluten-free)

  • What is buckwheat and where does it come from?
    Buckwheat originates from Central Asia. In spite of the name-relatedness, the buckwheat clearly differs from the wheat. It also does not belong to the group of cereals, but to the pseudo-cereals. Botanically, it belongs to the knotweed family. Knotweed plants are herbaceous, shrub-like plants that form nut fruits.

  • Why is buckwheat suitable for feeding babies?
    Buckwheat contains high-quality protein and provides the minerals potassium and magnesium. It is gluten-free and has a bitter, nutty taste.

  • Did you know?
    Buckwheat got its name from the shape of its seeds, which are reminiscent of beechnuts. Buckwheat makes an important contribution to the food security of bees with its blossom. HiPP has been processing buckwheat since 2009, mainly for the Eastern European and Asian markets.

    Tapioca is not a cereal but the starch obtained from the manioc root. Manioc belongs to the group of root and tuber vegetables and originates from Brazil. Today it is also at home in Colombia, West Africa, India, Thailand and Indonesia.

  • Why is tapioca suitable for feeding babies?
    Tapioca is largely tasteless and well tolerated. It also contains no allergens and is gluten-free.

  • Did you know?
    Today tapioca is one of the most important staple foods in the world. The main growing areas are in South America, Africa and Asia. HiPP has been using Tapioka in Italy for many years, and in Germany since 2016.
