The mineral magnesium plays a vital role, because without it no living cell can fulfill its many functions. Magnesium is needed in the human body, among other things, in the area of energy metabolism or stimulus transmission. It also plays an important role in normal muscle function.

Since the human body consumes magnesium on a daily basis, it can be useful to support the magnesium supply. Especially in certain life situations with increased physical exertion, for example during sports or stress, we excrete the mineral through urine and sweat. Around 300-400 mg of magnesium is excreted every day.
If the body does not have enough magnesium, it is drawn from the body's own depots, for example the bones or muscles.

The Dead Sea: Natural source of magnesium

The Dead Sea is actually a drainless lake that borders Israel, the West Bank and Jordan and is fed by the Jordan River. It covers about 900 km2 and, at 420 meters, is considered the deepest body of water on earth. The natural monument owes its name "Dead Sea" to its high salt content, which means that no living creatures can live there except for some microbes, bacteria and algae. Only in the inflow area of fresh water some plants and fish can be found.

The hypersaline content of the lake can be used in many ways. Probably most people first think of bathers floating effortlessly on the surface of the lake. This is due to the high salinity and associated high density of the water. On average, the Dead Sea contains between 28 - 33 percent salts.

It is interesting to note that the Baltic Sea, for example, contains an average of only 0.8 percent, the North Sea 3.0 percent and the Mediterranean Sea 3.8 percent salts.

The Dead Sea is considered the richest body of water on earth in salts and minerals. Salt from the Dead Sea contains a very high concentration of valuable minerals such as magnesium, potassium or iodine due to the desert climate and the strong evaporation.
The Dead Sea is a self-contained body of water that is constantly supplied with fresh water, salt and minerals by the Jordan River. Thus, the valuable enriched salts, for example magnesium salts, are preserved.

The mineral slag of the Dead Sea is often used for therapeutic or cosmetic treatments. The salt is pre-dried in large evaporation basins by intensive solar radiation and prepared, among other things, for use in Doppelherz Magnesium Capsules.
