Founded by grandfather Victor Mills
Victor Mills was an American chemical engineer who revolutionized child care while working for Procter & Gamble Co. with the invention of disposable diapers. He began work on this project in the 1950s, using his grandchildren as subjects (born 1897, died 1 Nov. 1997).
While there was a general belief that fathers knew best, Vic Mills believed that grandfathers knew a little better. This man, who happened to be working for Procter & Gamble, was looking for a simpler way to wrap his grandson. That was the birth of Pampers.
While the general view was that fathers knew best, Vic Mills believed that grandfathers knew a little better. This man, who happened to be working for Procter & Gamble, was looking for a simpler way to wrap his grandson. That was the birth of Pampers.
Some went to Woodstock. We went to department stores, supermarkets and drugstores across the country to sell a diaper that keeps babies dry and makes parents happy. The only problem was that nobody knew exactly where Pampers should be sorted. Our diapers were so novel that you could find them in the convenience department, food, paper goods or even the drug department.
Bell bottoms. Platform shoes. And glue. But no liquid. But adhesive tape. We replaced the classic needle with tape so parents could peek into the diaper without biting. And while others were in the disco, we developed new models like Pampers Toddler Size, Extra Absorbent Daytime, Improved Newborn, Quilted Pampers and Premature Infant Size.
At this time, everything was about excesses. Even diapers. We introduced advantage packs, because you really can never have enough diapers. We also had other brilliant ideas: The first thin diaper made of absorbent gelling material, with elastic leg ends, straps that could be re-fastened, and softer inner material. We thought that our progress should also be a bit excessive.
Forget money. Show me all the new Pampers. We developed the Ultra Dry Thins nappies that pulled moisture into the absorbent and then absorbed more liquid. We also invented the first stretch panels that made our diapers even more comfortable.
"What are they going to think of next?" We are the ones who always come up with something. We have already made diapers that breathe - yes, exactly, breathe. Plus premium and baby-dry nappies that keep babypopos tender and soft with a protective layer of body lotion. Grandpa Vic would be very proud of us.
At Pampers we care about the healthy and happy development of babies. When discovering their world, while playing and sleeping, a diaper may not disturb them. That's why our experts choose the materials for the diapers carefully: they pay particular attention to safety and excellent performance, so that your favorite skin stays dry and healthy.
All Pampers products and materials are subject to the strictest safety and quality controls before they come in contact with the delicate baby skin. For Pampers nothing is more important than the happy, healthy development of your baby. That's why we have our Pampers Security Promise, in which we disclose what's in our diapers, panties and wet wipes and what's not. All products are made from materials that have been carefully tested and rated as safe. These are included in most diapers and come in contact with 25 million babies worldwide every day.
The Pampers Safety Promise:
