How to conduct a scientific study with babies and children
What condition must be fulfilled: Before starting, an ethics committee will examine the planned study.
Only when it gives the green light, the study can begin.
Who participates : Only with the consent of parents children can participate in the study. You also need to have healthy skin. The search for the small participants is sometimes time-consuming and logistically very complex, because the age and health status of the children, the period, the duration and the complexity of the study can limit the choice of children.
How to work : For objective data acquisition, it is very important to work under standardized conditions. For this, as many influencing factors as possible have to be excluded or specified in all study participants so as not to disturb the actual measurements. Some possible examples are: All competitors must use the same diaper brand. In the last 12 hours, participants must not have applied lotion or cream. What is measured : The most common values measured in skin examinations are:
- Water loss of the skin, pH, skin moisture of the skin surface
- Lipid content (a type of fat content) of the skin surface
What is measured : With sensors that are placed on the skin and can not hurt them. Parents also need to keep a journal of extraordinary events or observations, such as when the child has a cold. These details are important to understand unusual results when evaluating the measurement data - for example, when a child's facial skin suddenly deteriorates massively due to a cold.
How to evaluate : For the objective analysis of the data, a statistician is consulted. If possible, the statistician only gets the data of the various groups, but he does not know which group was treated as. For example, he only gets data labeled "Group A" and "Group B", but he does not know with which care product which group was treated. This prevents the statistician from unconsciously influencing the data analysis because he thinks, for example, that one care product is better than the other.
Where the results will be published : At the end of each study, the results will be submitted in an international scientific journal. Die ersten Tage mit Baby: Willkommen in der Welt!
Zeit für Nähe und Ruhe
Der Start in das Familienleben gelingt am besten in aller Ruhe. Hebammen empfehlen frischgebackenen Müttern oder Familien, sich erst einmal ein bis zwei Wochen lang daheim einzukuscheln und den Rest der Welt weitgehend zu vergessen.
Natürlich ist es nicht unbedingt leicht, sich zurückzuziehen, wenn Freunde und Verwandte gratulieren oder das Baby sehen möchten. Hier darfst du jedoch ruhig Prioritäten setzen. Wenn es dir zu viel wird, kannst du Besuchswillige einfach auf einen späteren Termin vertrösten. Das Handy kann ruhig auch mal längere Zeit ausgeschaltet oder zumindest lautlos sein.
Schließlich braucht ihr Zeit, um...
- ...euch erst einmal kennen zu lernen.
- ...das Stillen zu lernen oder den besten Rhythmus für die Fläschchenmahlzeiten zu finden.
- ...einen Schlafrhythmus zu finden und euch an das nächtliche Aufstehen zu gewöhnen.
- …euch mit dem neuen, winzigen Familienmitglied vertraut zu machen und eine enge Beziehung zum Kind aufzubauen (das nennt sich Bonding)
- ...die Abläufe beim Wickeln, der Babypflege und dem Baby baden zu perfektionieren.
- ...damit zurechtzukommen, dass das neue Familienmitglied euren gewohnten Tagesablauf die ganze Zeit durcheinanderbringt
Nicht vergessen: wichtige Termine
Bei aller Zurückgezogenheit in den ersten Tagen gibt es einige wenige organisatorische Punkte, an die du auf jeden Fall denken musst:
- Die U2 beim Kinderarzt, falls sie nicht schon im Krankenhaus gemacht wurde
- Die Geburtsurkunde innerhalb von 1 Woche nach der Geburt beantragen, falls das nicht schon in der Klinik geschehen ist
- Den Arbeitgeber über die Geburt informieren, ebenfalls in der ersten Woche nach der Geburt
- Dein Baby bei der Krankenversicherung anmelden
- Den Antrag auf Mutterschaftsgeld abschicken
- Gegebenenfalls die Tageskrippen, bei denen du dein Kind angemeldet hast, über die Geburt informieren
Pause für Mama – Ausruhen und Erholen nach der Geburt
Am Anfang solltest du dich eher aufs Schlafen, Ausruhen und Aktivitäten im Liegen oder Sitzen konzentrieren. Dein Körper muss sich schließlich von großen Anstrengungen erholen und macht gerade viele Veränderungen bei der Rückbildung durch. Nicht umsonst bezeichnet man die ersten sechs bis acht Wochen nach der Geburt als Wochenbett. Gönn dir daher ruhig zwischendurch immer wieder kleine Verwöhnpausen, um Energie zu tanken. Das kommt dir und deinem Baby zugute.
Hier sind einige Ideen für Mamapausen
- Ein Nickerchen, sobald der kleine Schatz schläft. Dabei bieten sich besonders die Zeiten nach den Still- oder Fläschchenmahlzeiten an, weil Babys gerne gleich nach dem Trinken zufrieden einschlafen. Such dir einfach für das Stillen oder Füttern einen bequemen Platz auf dem Bett oder Sofa, damit du mit deinem Baby ein wenig dösen kannst.
- Entschleunigen. Die ersten Tage mit Baby sind spannend. Nach einer Zeit werden jedoch die Handgriffe zur Routine und es kann auch Langeweile aufkommen. Schließlich ist dein „Elternalltag“ nun weniger abwechslungsreich und du bekommst auch weniger Ansprache als früher im Beruf. Versuche diese Zeit der Entschleunigung zu nutzen. Das Baby fordert dich genug – passe dich seinem Rhythmus an und genieß die Zeit der Monotonie. Diese wird schnell wieder vorbei sein, wenn dein Baby anfängt, die Welt zu entdecken.
- Ein wenig Zeit allein. Gönn dir selbst ruhig hin und wieder etwas Freizeit und bitte andere um Unterstützung. Es tut gut, wenn Freunde oder die Großeltern dein Kind ein, zwei Stunden lang betreuen. So kannst du ungestört Dinge unternehmen, die für dich und dein Wohlbefinden wichtig sind. Ein Spaziergang mit Partner, deinem Hobby nachgehen, ein Besuch beim Frisör...
Aufgabenteilung zwischen Mama und Papa
Wie du und dein Partner die großen und kleinen Aufgaben im Babyalltag unter euch aufteilt, hängt von vielen Faktoren ab. Da kommt es darauf an, ob Papa auch Elternzeit nimmt oder nicht, wie viel Unterstützung ihr von den Großeltern bekommt, wie viel zeitlicher Spielraum da ist und wie der Alltag strukturiert ist. Hier findet jedes Paar eine individuelle Lösung.
Wichtig ist nur, dass ihr als Eltern tatsächlich eine Lösung findet. Von Anfang an sollten hier die Wünsche und Bedürfnisse kommuniziert werden. So könnt ihr klare Regeln aufstellen, bevor sich jemand unfair behandelt fühlt.
Regeln zur Aufgabenteilung betreffen Dinge wie:
- Sich nachts um den Spatz kümmern
- Allein auf das Baby aufpassen, während der andere Zeit für sich hat
- Falls nicht gestillt wird: Fläschchen geben
- Das Baby trösten, wenn es schreit
- Wickeln / Windeln wechseln
- Baden
- Zu Bett bringen
Wie du dein Baby kennenlernen und verstehen kannst
Bestimmt hast du dich im Laufe deiner Schwangerschaft immer wieder gefragt, wie es sein wird, wenn dein Baby da ist. Jetzt, wo es auf der Welt ist, kannst du diesen kleinen Menschen endlich richtig kennen-, verstehen und noch mehr lieben lernen. Das funktioniert so:
Kennenlernen. Nicht jedes Baby ist gleich. Auch die Kleinsten haben schon ihre Eigenheiten und Vorlieben. Mit der Zeit findest du heraus, was dein Baby mag und was nicht. Das machst du, indem du seine Reaktionen in unterschiedlichen Situationen genau beobachtest. Gluckst es zufrieden beim Baden? Beschwert es sich beim Stillen, wenn du am Tag vorher Knoblauch gegessen hast? Ist es morgens besser drauf als abends?
Verstehen lernen. Schon Neugeborene können ihre Bedürfnisse recht gut ausdrücken, auch wenn sie noch nicht sprechen können. Und wir können ihre Signale instinktiv ebenso selbstverständlich verstehen. Verlass dich also ruhig auf dein Gefühl. Dein Baby nutzt Blickkontakt und Körpersprache, um mit dir zu kommunizieren. Indem es dich aufmerksam anschaut und aufmunternde Arm- und Beinbewegungen macht, zeigt es zum Beispiel, dass es mit dir spielen oder kuscheln will. Indem es Kopf und Körper zur Seite dreht, signalisiert es meist, dass es eine Pause braucht. Und natürlich schreit oder weint dein Baby, um dir zu zeigen, dass es etwas braucht.
Noch mehr lieben. In den Wochen nach der Geburt verstärkt sich dein starkes Liebesgefühl zu deinem Kind nochmals. Bei manchen Eltern entwickelt sich dieses Gefühl jetzt erst langsam, auch das ist völlig normal. Man nennt dieses starke Gefühl von Zusammengehörigkeit auch Bonding. Du kannst die Bindung zu deinem Baby auch bewusst beschleunigen. Oftmals ist das gerade für Papas wichtig, die weder durch die Schwangerschaft noch durch Stillen eine intensive Bindung herstellen können.
Postpartale Depression: Tränen im größten Glück
Wenn Mamas ihr Neugeborenes im Arm halten, überflutet die meisten erst einmal ein Gefühl großen Glücks. Nach all den Monaten des Wartens, nach den anstrengenden Stunden der Geburt ist ihr Baby endlich da. Ein wunderbarer, ganz besonderer Moment! Allerdings erleben die meisten Frauen in den folgenden Tagen auch, dass ihre Gefühle manchmal überraschend gemischt sind. Dass ihnen plötzlich alles zu viel wird und die Tränen fließen. Dieser Stimmungsabsturz, der meistens zwischen dem 3. und 10. Tag auftritt, wird Babyblues oder Wochenbettdepression genannt. In der Medizin spricht man vom postpartalen Stimmungstief oder von der postnatalen Depression (PND).
Ursachen für den Babyblues
Keine Mama sollte sich deswegen Vorwürfe machen. Der Grund für diese Stimmung sind die großen körperlichen und psychischen Anstrengungen von Schwangerschaft und Geburt. Dazu kommen die starken, hormonellen Veränderungen nach der Geburt.
Wenn diese Gefühle länger anhalten und einen Monat nach der Geburt immer noch vorhanden sind, kann es sich um eine postpartale Depression handeln. Auch für eine Depression muss sich niemand schämen! In einem solchen Fall solltest du dir allerdings professionellen Rat durch Hebamme oder Arzt holen.
