We are skin care
For over 130 years the name Beiersdorf stands for innovative skincare. The secret of our success has always been the strong innovative power and the consistent further development of our unique brands and products. We always do our best to maintain and enhance the high quality and trust of our consumers in our skincare products.
Skin care as a matter of the heart
Our limitless passion for skincare is what sets us apart. With our unique brands and care products, we are always close to the needs of the consumer - global and regional.
Our brands - Close to the consumer
Perfect skin care knows regional claims and meets international standards
Our brands trust people all over the world. They have different demands on their skincare depending on where they live. Environmental factors and sunshine are just two of the factors that play a role. We do a lot to learn more about what our customers value regionally. For example, we invest in dermatological research and the development of our products worldwide. We set internationally high standards. We also conduct consumer long-term studies and operate skin research centers in many countries. This is how we find answers to the individual needs of our customers in various regions of the world.
Strong and successful - in more than 200 countries around the world
Every 8 years, scientific knowledge grows by about 200%. We now know more than 5000 times as much as people 100 years ago. Beiersdorf has contributed significantly to this wealth of knowledge. Our research into skin biology and the basic biological, chemical and physical principles of optimal skin care has resulted in a wealth of new product and drug innovations.
The basis for progress and innovation at Beiersdorf is our continuous search for new biological starting points for the targeted response to the skin needs of different skin types and age groups. Our multidisciplinary team of human, cell and molecular biologists as well as immunologists and biochemists at the Hamburg Research Center investigate new principles of action that support the skin as naturally as possible in its metabolic processes.
In order to achieve our goal, we use the latest biochemical, molecular biological and physical examination methods. In addition, we cooperate worldwide with university, institutional and industrial partners from research and science.
In addition, our research center offers natural scientists a doctoral program with supervision by scientists from Beiersdorf AG and university partners.
We believe that by incorporating the unique needs of our global consumers into the research and development of new skin care products and through scientific advances in and out of Beiersdorf, we can ensure an exciting future for skin research.
Eucerin close up: Healthy skin is beautiful
Eucerin - care with healing effects
When the medicinal ointment foundation Eucerit was discovered more than 100 years ago, it was a small revolution. At the same time, Beiersdorf set the course for success. Today, the company offers a range of highly effective care ranges under the name Eucerin. The dermocosmetic products are based on the latest scientific knowledge and ensure a healthy and radiantly beautiful skin. Dermatologists and pharmacists know that too - and therefore gladly recommend Eucerin. Click here for the Eucerin website.
Healthy and beautiful skin is not only our specialty - it is our passion. That's why we work tirelessly to find even better and more effective care products for every skin requirement, such as dry, ultrasensitive or impure skin. In addition, we offer hair care products for sensitive scalp and deodorants.
The history of the Eucerin brand
The discovery of the Eucerin. Many of the ointments, creams or lotions for sensitive skin that are available today in pharmacies are based on a basic substance: the Eucerin. The ointment base obtained with the aid of the emulsifier Eucerit makes it possible to apply active ingredients in ointment form directly to the skin.
The theoretical basis for this had Isaac Lifschütz already laid down in 1898. After a long series of experiments, he was finally able to apply for a patent for the new emulsifier Eucerit in 1900, which was granted in 1902.
Eucerinum anhydricum, developed by Lifschütz, has become an indefinitely durable hydrophilic ointment base with mineral fats. After Lifschütz had sold his patent to Beiersdorf in 1911 and he himself had become a chemist in the company, the success of the product came to an end.
The pH5 series comes on the market. While the NIVEA cream developed by the emulsifier Eucerit on the skin care market made a career, the medical Eucerinum anhydricum and the Eucerinum cum Aqua remained a pure pharmacy product, which served as an ointment base.
In 1950 this changed with the introduction of pH5 Eucerin "Acid Ointment". Although the pharmacy was the exclusive distribution channel here as well, it was a "finished" product that for the first time focused on the importance of the acid protection coat for a healthy skin - a central aspect of medical skin care. In 1977, the assortment was expanded to include products for the entire body.
Facial skin in focus. In the mid-1990s, an additional product range for sensitive and damaged facial skin was launched under the brand name Eucerin. The Eucerin facial care was able to celebrate great success right from the start with the first clinically documented anti-wrinkle cream Q10 Active. However, Beiersdorf continued to consciously opt for the pharmacy as a sales channel in order to ensure the appropriate expert advice.
Today, the Eucerin range includes a variety of high quality product lines that provide effective skin care from head to toe.
