The history of the Eucerin brand

Eucerin storyThe discovery of the Eucerin. Many of the ointments, creams or lotions for sensitive skin that are available today in pharmacies are based on a basic substance: the Eucerin. The ointment base obtained with the aid of the emulsifier Eucerit makes it possible to apply active ingredients in ointment form directly to the skin.

The theoretical basis for this had Isaac Lifschütz already laid down in 1898. After a long series of experiments, he was finally able to apply for a patent for the new emulsifier Eucerit in 1900, which was granted in 1902.

Eucerinum anhydricum, developed by Lifschütz, has become an indefinitely durable hydrophilic ointment base with mineral fats. After Lifschütz had sold his patent to Beiersdorf in 1911 and he himself had become a chemist in the company, the success of the product came to an end.

The pH5 series comes on the market. While the NIVEA cream developed by the emulsifier Eucerit on the skin care market made a career, the medical Eucerinum anhydricum and the Eucerinum cum Aqua remained a pure pharmacy product, which served as an ointment base.

In 1950 this changed with the introduction of pH5 Eucerin "Acid Ointment". Although the pharmacy was the exclusive distribution channel here as well, it was a "finished" product that for the first time focused on the importance of the acid protection coat for a healthy skin - a central aspect of medical skin care. In 1977, the assortment was expanded to include products for the entire body.

Facial skin in focus. In the mid-1990s, an additional product range for sensitive and damaged facial skin was launched under the brand name Eucerin. The Eucerin facial care was able to celebrate great success right from the start with the first clinically documented anti-wrinkle cream Q10 Active. However, Beiersdorf continued to consciously opt for the pharmacy as a sales channel in order to ensure the appropriate expert advice.

Today, the Eucerin range includes a variety of high quality product lines that provide effective skin care from head to toe.

Melody-pop, strawberry-flavoured lollipop. Ingredients: Sugar, glucose syrup, acidifier (lactic acid, malic acid, citric acid), flavour, colouring (prayer red). ATTENTION: Contains a toy. Use under adult supervision is recommended +3 years.
